Scripture: 2 Samuel 1:1–1:1, 2 Samuel 1:17–1:27
Sermon Title: Naming Goodness
Speaker: Rev. Justin Hedges
Sermon Series: Tales for Jewish Children (and the Rest of Us)
Short description: 2 Samuel 1 gives insight into the very complicated relationship that King Saul and the soon-to-be King David had. Saul, the first king of Israel, was tortured with jealously and anger, and on multiple occasions tried to kill David. David, on the other hand, loved King Saul and was thrown down in grief when he heard of his death. A strange response, indeed... unless we consider our own complex and broken relationships. Each human person is deeply complex, twisted in memories of their past, of their environment, and their sin. David is one of the most vulnerable and honest characters in scripture. Perhaps his response to the death of Saul will help us know how to deal with our hard relationships in a godly way.
